General Information

Learning the laws regulating the use of firearms is a must for responsible ownership. Local regulations differ and laws vary from state to state. Citizens must check with the jurisdiction where the gun is to be used.

The Sheriff and his staff are required to follow strict state guidelines when performing the necessary background checks for License to Carry Firearms. 

A License to Carry Firearms can be obtained from the county sheriff of your county of residence.

*If your license has been expired by 6 months or more, you must complete a NEW application.

Pricing

  • A New License to Carry application costs $20.00
  • A Renewal License to Carry application costs $20.00
  • A Replacement for Lost/Stolen, or Name/Address Change (Washington County issued licenses only) costs $5.00 - If you have a license issued in another county and you move to Washington County, you must wait until your current license comes up for renewal.

Upon submitting an application through this site, you will be responsible for all fees associated. If denied by PA Insta Check or by failure to answer any questions appropriately, $15 will be refunded. This reflects an administrative fee of $5 that will be kept by the Sheriff's Office per State Statute and any service fees kept by Permitium.

 

*Once your LTC is approved, you have to come into the office within 10 days.

 

Gaining competency with firearms is like learning to drive a car or fly an airplane. You need expert instruction and practice. There is no shortcut. If you are not willing to invest the time and effort to become competent, then having a firearm and trying to use it can, in many instances, be more hazardous than any impending threat.
